Guide to Chinese Government Scholarship Application Documents

Dear alumni, as the arrival of the next application season, If you are preparing to study in China applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship or are already studying here wishing to apply for the next diploma, preparing a complete set of application documents will increase your chances of successfully obtaining the scholarship.

The Chinese Government Scholarship includes several programs. Please confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements of the program apply for before application and carefully preparing the documents according to requirements of each program. Normally speaking, these documents include:

1. Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form  

Applicants need to log in to the “Chinese Government Scholarship Information System” (http://www.campuschina.org) and fill out online application information. After submitting the application, please download the application form generated by the system.

2. Scanned Copy of the  Passport Homepage

When submitting the materials, please ensure that your passport is within the valid period. If your passport’s validity does not meet the requirements, you should promptly apply for a new passport from the relevant authority.

3. Highest Education Diploma

Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a notarized translation in Chinese or English. If you are currently a student, you need to submit a certificate of expected graduation or a school letterissued by your current university.

4. Academic Transcripts of the Highest LEducation

Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a notarized translation in Chinese or English.

5. Language Proficiency Certificate

Applicants whose major is taught in Chinese must provide a valid HSK testreport that meets the required level of Chinese proficiency of the category applying. Applicants whose major is taught in a foreign language should submit relevant language proficiency proof as required by the university, such as IELTS or TOEFL scores.

6. Pre-admission Documents

You should submit pre-admission documentsissued by your desired university, admission notice, pre-admission documents, or invitation letter from the supervisor.  It is suggested that all applicants pay close attention to the application notice or contact the desired universities, make clear of the reequipments of obtaining the pre-admission documents.

7. Study or Research plan 

The word count of the study or research plan varies based onapplication category. Undergraduate applicants need to submit a plan of at least 200 words, general scholars need at least 500 words, and graduate applicants must write a plan of no less than 1,000 words. The plan should be written in Chinese or English.

In the study plan, you should clearly outline the content of your intended study or research in China, including your research topic, methods, and expected outcomes, based on your field of study and research interests.

8. Recommendation Letters 

International students applying for a master’s or doctoral degree, or for senior scholar programs, need to provide two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors. These letters can be written in Chinese or English.

A strong recommendation letter should highlight your unique qualities, such as academic achievements, research potential, and teamwork abilities, giving institutions a more comprehensive understanding of you and increasing your chances of success.

9. Individual Works

Students applying for programs related to art, design, or similar fields must submit a portfolio showcasing their artistic talent, professional skills, and aesthetic vision, in addition to the regular application materials.

While preparing your portfolio, refer to the relevant admissions guidelines from your intended institution to ensure the quality and presentation of your work meet the required standards.

10. Applicants under 18 need to submit legal documents of their legal guardian in China.

11. Foreigner Physical Examination Form  

Applicants planning to stay China for more than six monthsmust submit a copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Forms without complete information, without the applicant’s photo attached or with an unstamped photo, or lacking the signature and stamp of the physician and hospital, are invalid. The medical results must be valid for six months.

12. Non-criminal Records Report

Applicants must submit a valid non-criminal record certificate issued by the local police department, typically within six months prior to the application submission.

14. Research Achievements and Related Materials

Submit detailed materials for research projects you have participated in or led, along with published research results. This includes, but is not limited to, academic papers, academic conferences, research awards, and research-related patents or publications. These materials serve as key factors in assessing the applicant’s research background and professional expertise.
